The first part of EXSTORE Assessment System covers the literature questioning the value of some traditional testing. For example, that quite normal people may have disc bulges and protrusions and full thickness rotator cuff tears, yet are able to function satisfactorily without pain or dysfunction.
A consideration of some of the theory behind chiropractic, for example how the biomechanics of a region, say the shoulder, can be seriously changed due to Muscle Motor Inhibition, viz muscle weakness due motor neuron irritation.
Further, there is interesting information on how such irritated nerves can release inflammatory substances causing "neurogenic inflammation" in the musculoskeletal system.
Then there is discussion how, via nociceptors in a muscle or joint, noxious stimuli to the body, either from injury or arthritis for example, can cause irritation and inflammation in a nerve.
Simple tools available to any chiropractor, but packaged in such a way as to find and correct these motor inhibitions in the spine, shoulder and pelvic girdles that undermine proper rehabilitation of an injured joint.
“Treatments that have been shown to reverse the effects of arthrogenic muscle inhibition should be used immediately before therapeutic exercise is performed in an effort to activate motor units that may have been previously inhibited.”
